New Beginnings

{taking a bite out of the big apple}

{cheers to being employed!!}

The moment I have been waiting for- and studying and working and preparing for- is finally here. On Monday, I am starting my first job! Even more, the job is in Manhattan, a city I have longed to move to since I was a little girl, and is for one of my all-time favorite fashion brands, J.Crew.

I am feeling so many emotions as I begin this new chapter of life. Every success I’ve ever celebrated, from receiving good SAT scores that got me into the top communications school in the country to securing two awesome fashion internships and graduating college with double honors, has culminated into this moment of accepting my first job. While I’m nervous to start and sad to leave my family in Maryland, I can honestly say I breathed a sigh of relief for the first time in eight years.

I’m scared yet determined, intimidated yet excited to see what this next phase of life brings. Either way, I’m waltzing unapologetically into NYC with the starry-eyed naïvety of twenty-two.

Weekend Inspiration

In the midst of my post-grad job search, I have utilized my free time to be inspired by everything around me. From the colors of the coast (sandy neutrals and pale blues) to the current fashion trends (hello, stripes), seasonal flowers, and everything in between; I am focusing on creativity, being present, and appreciating the onset of summer. I’ve curated a few of my favorite moments below.

Have a wonderful week.

Summer Necessities

Fall Favorites (5).png

When life gives you lemons, make a lemonade cocktail and sit back to enjoy the summer weather. I am so excited about this season’s fun trends, from everyone’s obsession with lemons to being giddy for gingham. Cute prints and eye-catching detail seem to be a recurring factor- whether it’s on your umbrella, neck scarf, or espadrilles. I’m focusing on pairing breezy white and beige dresses with poppy accessories, as well as my favorite tactic of having my shoes be the outfit centerpiece.

What summer trends are you obsessed with?

1. BaubleBar Fringe Earrings

2. Soludos Espadrilles

3. For Love & Lemons One Piece

4. Nordstrom Tie-Front Midi Dress

5. Show Me Your Mumu Set

6. Bobbi Brown Highlighter

7. Raffia Clutch

8. J.Crew Umbrella

Graduating College

IMG_9060.JPG

During the past few months of studying for finals, looking for a job, and graduating college, blogging really fell to the wayside. I’m happy to finally have free time while home in Maryland, and grateful to be able to relax a little with my family before moving to NYC to start my career. My family had a rough year and it brings me so much joy that things are finally back to normal.

Less than two weeks ago, I graduated summa cum laude and with honors program distinction from Syracuse University with a degree in public relations, marketing, and fashion communications. While I’ve never been one to gloat or be lazy, it feels quite amazing to look back at all I’ve accomplished. I sincerely enjoyed my time at SU, and while I am very excited for the road ahead, saying goodbye to such an important chapter in my life has been sad. I left school with amazing memories, mentors, and friendships that will all last a lifetime. Growing up is hard, but I feel incredibly blessed to do with will my family, friends, and boyfriend by my side.

Cheers to a new chapter!

Getaway | Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

I recently traveled to Mexico for my college spring break with 8 of my best friends in my sorority. We stayed in a beautiful villa nestled in between the ocean and jungle. The whole vacation felt so luxurious: our villa came with two chefs that made us the most delicious authentic Mexican food and a driver to take us to the beach. The sunshine and time with my girls was much needed. My first trip to Mexico was quite the success, and I’m definitely going to have to return for the guacamole, strawberry daiquiris and salty beaches. The semester is going by so fast. It’s hard to believe I’ll be graduating in just a few short months- so many things are going to change.

Before I get too nostalgic, here are some photos to recap my spring break.

Spring is Coming

fall-favorites-4

With temperatures in the seventies this week, it was hard not to dream about spring and the cute outfits that come along with it. I’m loving some of the trends for the upcoming season. Tops with unique details such as ties, ruffles and knots seem to be everywhere. Girly pieces in pastel hues paired with chic sneaks is a look I’ll definitely be investing in. Here are a few items I have my eye on!

1. Adidas Gazelle Sneaker

2. Karen Walker Sunnies

3. Tie Sleeve Sweater

4. Coral Neck Scarf

5. Overall Jumper

6. Nude Liquid Lipstick

7. Ruffle Sleeve Blouse

8. Boater Hat

9. Gingham Blouse

10. Distressed Blue Jeans

Resolutions

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Though we rang in the new year almost two weeks ago, I’m just now getting organized and settled into 2017. I make a list of new years resolutions every year and there are some I’ve stuck to and others that I’ve abandoned by Valentine’s Day. Usually my resolutions are more along the lines of “do yoga every day” or “eat clean 80%, indulge 20%” but this year feels different and more reflective. Here is what I’m striving for in 2017.

  1. Focus on being truly happy. While this may seem elementary, I’ve come to notice how unhappy I’ve been. I find myself always wishing for more perfection, more clothes, more shoes, more likes on Instagram… and well, its become exhausting. Despite a tumultuous 2016, I have millions of reasons to be happy. I want to be able to simply be in 2017: to wake up and count my lucky stars for all I’ve been given, all I’ve worked for, and all the wonderful family, friends, and opportunities I’ve been blessed with.
  2. Embrace change without being anxious. I’ve gone through changes in the past. Graduating high school and going to a college far from home where I knew no one was difficult, but I did it. Living in New York City and Italy were big changes, but they ended up being some of the best decisions I ever made because of the memories and friendships that blossomed along the way. Now I face possibly the biggest change in my 20’s: I’m graduating college, starting a job somewhere, and possibly moving to a new city. While it’s exciting, my gut reaction is immediately anxiety and stress. While I accept that I am naturally a nervous person, my goal for 2017 is to embrace these life changes head-on with positivity, gratitude, and a smile.
  3. Don’t be so hard on myself. I have been a perfectionist for as long as I can remember. I don’t enjoy it, but I can’t imagine myself any other way. While it’s gotten better over the years, I still have a ways to go. I need to stop being so hard on myself for mistakes, problems and confusions. These mishaps are part of life and help us learn and grow.
  4. Recognize the need for rest. This past semester, I woke up every day at 7am to run four miles before classes, homework, and club meetings. While running helped my anxiety about everything that was happening, I was running myself -quite literally- into the ground. I barely slept, stayed up late studying and worrying, and didn’t nourish myself properly with enough food to fuel the amount of exercise I was doing each week. I came home for winter break feeling as though I hadn’t slept in a year. While I gained leg muscle, I felt weak in my brain, arms, and soul. I love to work out, but I’ve realized that my body needs rest- and lots of it.
  5. Take my time. We are all guilty of rushing through life. I am constantly counting down the minutes left in a class, the days until the weekend, and the months until a special occasion or holiday. In 2017, I hope to take my time in conversations, moments, meals, walking to class, spending time with friends and family- the list goes on. Life is too short to count down the days. I want to appreciate every minute of my last semester, of this year, and every year to come.
