Back to School

WHEW! The past two weeks have been a whirlwind as I moved back to Syracuse University for my junior year. I am living in an apartment off campus this year (room tour to come soon!) and have spent almost all of my free time unpacking, decorating, shopping for room supplies, and catching up with friends. Unfortunately, moving in to my apartment caused blogging to take a backseat the past week, but I am excited to be back with a first day of class outfit post!

While my mind says pumpkin spice lattes and sweaters, the unbearable humidity in Syracuse says otherwise. In order to beat the heat today, I wore my comfy Mixology shorts paired with this American Eagle embroidered top and gladiator sandals for a boho look. To add some prep, I wore my new KJP pearl bracelet (an anniversary gift from my boyfriend) and Kate Spade earrings.

The first week is always a bit stressful trying to adjust to new schedules and develop a weekly routine. I’m looking forward to my sorority’s first chapter of the year tonight, followed by gearing up for the second day of classes tomorrow!

Have a great week!

The Inspiration:

With today being the first day of classes, I thought it would be fitting to base my monthly inspiration series on school supplies. Legally Blonde is my favorite movie, and I think that Elle Woods may be my spirit animal. Elle wore a forest green suit, pink button-up top, and tie to her first day of law school, and used a pink notepad with a pink furry pen. Though I left my furry pink pen at home today (yes, I have one), I am inspired by Elle Woods to always have fun school supplies, including a Lilly Pulitzer planner, iPad case, pink Post-Its, and a periwinkle pen.

What are your favorite fabulous school supplies?

When I was growing up, venturing to the backyard for a picnic was one of my favorite summer pastimes. Even at 20 years old, eating lunch under a shady tree in my backyard is still exciting- and don’t forget relaxing. My summer picnic necessities? Fresh fruit from the local market, sweet tea, San Pellegrino, and a cute blanket scarf from Forever 21. These mason jar lids I found at Target and gingham towels from HomeGoods made it feel all the more special. I even tried this DIY tutorial on painted picnic utensils- just to add another touch. Perfect for an afternoon with the kids or a last minute lunch with your significant other- backyard picnics are an easy, affordable, fun summer tradition.

My obsession with Syracuse may be getting out hand… but I have to admit I am currently obsessed with the blue and orange color combination. Either I just really miss college and our school colors, or this combo appeals to me because the two are contrast colors. I often pair these shades together for outfits, but they work for beauty as well.

We’ve already discussed my obsession with orange lipstick, so it should not come as a surprise that I featured this Dolce&Gabbana Lipstick in “Tender.” This shade pairs perfectly with the Dolce&Gabbana Light Blue perfume, a lovely summer fragrance, and my current Essie favorites: “Bikini So Teeny” and “Private Weekend.”

What are your favorite summer beauty products?

After a massive cleaning yesterday (which mostly consisted of me throwing away junk from under my bed), I decided to add a few more decor elements to my bedroom. I did not buy anything new, but rather rearranged little items and trinkets I owned to add more color and design that fits my eclectic style. I love how it turned out, and the redecoration did not require any painting or investments!

Sometimes you just need a change.

{waving goodbye to the beach}

There is such a bittersweet feeling about leaving a place. When I left the city, I was devastated and longed to go back, but was excited to relax with my family by the ocean. When I left the beach this past weekend,  I knew I would miss the salty air and cute town, but was ready for something new. I am now back at my home in Maryland for the first time since May. Though the summer stillness surrounds us, my mind is bustling with anxiety as I pack for school, try to see friends before I leave, and manage to squeeze every necessary health appointment into a week’s time. However, being back at home reminds me of who I was before this summer,  so unsure and nervous of the future. I am proud of myself for all the chances I took, as a sister, friend, intern, and employee. I feel more confident, patient, and calm. My experiences this summer have helped me grow into someone I really want to be, and made me realize I am a lot more capable of doing life than I thought I was. I’m going to savor as much of summer as I can this next week before roadtripping back to Syracuse University for my junior year (I am beyond excited!) I might document every sunset, ice cream cone, or funny moment with my siblings this week, but I’m not ashamed. I just want to soak up every second.

You are amazing, don’t forget that.

With summer winding down these next few weeks, my style has definitely become pretty laid back. At the beach, most of us are in bathing suits all day until we have to go to work. The dress code for my job is very casual, and I find myself throwing on a pair of patterned shorts with a t-shirt more often than not. Sometimes the best outfits are those that are easiest! I’m channeling a comfy yet preppy vibe with this ensemble, and I plan on repeating it next week when I’m running errands before heading to school.

What is your go-to simple summer outfit?
