Back To (Preppy) Basics

{peonies in morning light}

{admiring the cute buildings on a walk through the Upper East Side}

As much as I try to experiment with new fashion trends, I will always revert back to the preppy style I have come to love over the past five years. I got this J.Crew top during their spring sale, but I think the blue and white pinstripes are perfect for the summer. I paired the blouse with a white crepe skirt, also from J.Crew. I am seriously loving the blue and orange color combo these days, and couldn’t help but snap a pic of my ensemble today next to my sunny yellow mug. Other things I’m appreciating today include the morning light on the lush peonies I picked up at the flower market this weekend (carefully placed into an old wine bottle…college student problems) and the aesthetic of all the apartments on the Upper East Side. I walked through the neighborhood for miles yesterday, simply enjoying the weather and pretty architecture.

Have a great week!

All About: NYC Food

Before moving to New York City, I never appreciated food. I viewed eating as more of a hassle rather than a delicacy. However, the city’s endless gourmet choices have helped me rediscover food and flavor. Here are some of the dishes and restaurants I am simply loving right now, separated by category.

Breakfast + Brunch

{Avocado toast at Bluestone Lane Collective Café}

{obsessed with the oatmeal bar at Oat Meals}

{Jack’s Wife Freda}

{Acai bowls at Two Hands NYC}

{Favorite coffee shop: La Colombe}

{Obsessed with kale salads from Fresh + Co}

{the most amazing concept: a sushi burrito at Uma Temakeria}

{Healthy mid-day snack at Chobani Soho}

{My favorite flatbread at a little tapas place near my dorm}

{Seriously loving tuna tartare}

{Any dish at The Smith is a winner in my book}

{the prettiest gelato ever from Amorino}

{Chocolate Marshmallow cupcake from Sprinkles Cupcakes}

I hope you enjoyed this food guide! I’d love to know, what are your favorite food spots in NYC?

Weekend Adventures

My favorite thing about New York City is how at any given moment, there are a million + one things to do. I went into this weekend with nothing planned- which actually benefitted me in the end. We had no expectations, no plans, and no schedule to stick to. We just let ourselves explore the city we’ve come to call home. I felt that all the photos I took this weekend somehow fit together- whether it was their complimenting colors or just the way they remind me of happiness, freedom, and city life. Here is a recap of my weekend:

Rainy Saturday

{Brandy Melville sweater, Nordstrom tank, Nordstrom jeans, American Eagle sandals}

{MAC lipstick in Pink Nouveau}

{Nordstrom bag}

{Essie nail polish in Private Weekend, Nordstrom rings}

I swapped shorts for boyfriend jeans this weekend as a result of rainy, chillier weather than we’re used to here in the city. In order to still dress in season, I chose a bright pink lip color and a soft, striped tank from Nordie’s (Stripes? for Summer? Groundbreaking.) Even with my favorite cardigan on top, the wind and rain still managed to give me a chill while exploring the city. I’m hoping for better weather tomorrow, and am thankful I have time to unwind tonight.

I hope you are having a relaxing weekend!

Whiteout + Pop of Orange

{American Eagle white jeans, Nordstrom BP tee, Birkenstocks, Michael Kors watch}

{Essie nail polish in “Private Weekend”}

{Milani orange lipstick in Sweet Nectar, Forever 21 earrings, similar here, Mixology bralette + necklaces}

Fridays in the summer mean two things: leaving work early and wearing a casual outfit. Today I chose classic white jeans and my favorite white tee, and decided to go for a monochromatic, casual look (also known as Normcore.) However, for a girl that loves colors, I had to add a little pop. I have been obsessed with orange lipstick recently, and this Walgreens buy I’m wearing above was only $5! I am going to be exploring art museums with a friend after work today, so in order to ensure maximum comfort, wore my beloved birks.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Monthly Muses | June

The Look:

{Vintage Scarf, Forever 21 necklace (similar here) American Eagle dress}

{Urban Decay eyeshadow, Dolce&Gabbana lip gloss, Covergirl mascara}

The Inspiration:

{beautiful blooms in Washington Square Park}

The concept of color has always inspired me. I study the Pantone Fashion Color Reports intently, and I wrote my college essay about crayons. I have been telling people since I was in middle school that my dream job would be inventing new Essie nail polish colors.

As a result of my obsession, it is only fitting that the first post of my new monthly series is centered around color. I bring you the June edition of “Monthly Muses,” which focuses on a floral color combo that inspired me. Each post of this series will showcase an outfit detail and the creative inspiration it stemmed from- whether it was a color, pattern, old photograph, or a Coke bottle.

This month, I was inspired by these lush hydrangeas in Washington Square Park, which is my favorite New York City park. The soft baby pink petals contrast beautifully with the deep green hue of the leaves. I decided to tie in this pretty watermelon-esque color combo into my outfit for a sunny June Wednesday, pairing a light green floral headscarf with an eyelet dress and hot pink lip gloss. My mom found this vintage headscarf in an antique shop, which made it all the more special when she gave it to me as a Christmas gift in high school. I absolutely love the way its faded colors looked against the bright lip color.

The perfect balance of the pink + green reflects the wonderful balance of the month of June: the blooming remnants of spring and the exciting beginnings of summer.

I hope this inspires you to find ideas for outfits everywhere!

Getaway | The Hamptons

This weekend was an absolute dream. My best friends and I escaped the concrete jungle we’ve gotten to know so well the past month for the quiet luxury of the Hamptons. We explored the towns of Westhampton and Southhampton, stopping to appreciate beautiful flowers and colonial architecture. We shopped in the adorable boutiques (most of which we could not afford even a sock) and dined in the sidewalk restaurants. A weekend full of beach naps and relaxation was exactly what we all needed to get geared up for the fourth week of our internships.

Hope you had a lovely weekend!
