Dorm Room Details

The summer before I came to Syracuse University, I spent hours searching for dorm room decor ideas on Pinterest. Some were a little unrealistic for me to do by myself, such as making a headboard out of wood and fabric, or too expensive (matching duvet, pillows, and bed skirt?!) However, I was able to achieve my dream of a white-washed room with pastel accents for a low cost by searching the shelves of T.J.Maxx, Target, and Home Goods.

The Bed

The most important part of any dorm room. College is a busy time, and it is essential to have a comfortable bed to fall into when you get back to your dorm after a long day of class, club meetings, and activities.Your college will supply you with a bed frame and a small mattress, and most students purchase a foam mattress topper for optimal comfort. I kept it simple with white blankets and pillows, and a few colorful accents. This tissue paper garland was only $6 at Target, and Society6 has the trendiest throw pillows.

Spruce up your dresser with dainty details, such as a vase with flowers (these are fake) and a dish to hold small jewelry. I found glass bowls at T.J.Maxx for $2 to hold my bracelets and necklaces. I made the inspiration board with random craft supplies I found around my house and cut up pages from last year’s Lilly Pulitzer planner. The other various crafts such as the colorful canvas, lipstick watercolor painting, and clothespin photo line were done with supplies purchased at Michael’s craft store.

I hope you enjoyed my dorm room tour!

xx, Laina
