I will be the first to say that I am all about anything fabulous. I wear oversized sunglasses perched on the edge of my nose and don’t take them off when I ride the bus to class. I absolutely adore the click-clack sound my booties make, and during the winter months, I wear lipstick religiously. To top it off, wearing my fur vest or coat makes me feel utterly glamorous.

However, I have never supported the wearing of real animal furs. Many fashion icons, such as Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, are known for promoting the use of real animal fur in garments. Time and time again, Mrs. Wintour has been verbally and even physically attacked by animal rights activists for her pro-fur editorials and advertisement campaigns.

I understand that furs are considered fabulous and have been especially trendy during the past few years. I, on the other hand, cannot help but be incredibly saddened by the thought of animals being harmed or even killed just to make a coat.

After six years of not eating meat, I recently gave up being a vegetarian. I have never been an extreme PETA activist, and to be honest, I do not judge Mrs. Wintour for wearing real furs. Everyone is entitled to their own life decisions and opinions, especially when it comes to fashion. I am a huge animal lover who simply cannot fathom the thought of wearing an animal as a jacket. I will continue to flaunt my faux fur vests and coats. They are cheaper after all.

Since the beginning of high school, I have followed Emily Schuman’s blog, “Cupcakes and Cashmere.” Since then, the blog has transformed into a full-on website and business, featuring posts about fashion, food, and decor. The content of each post is strong and Emily usually sticks to under 600 words, with information split into paragraphs so readers do not get lost in the writing.

The website is very easy to navigate, with page titles clearly at the top of the page and drop down menus to help you find exactly what you are looking for. The right side of the webpage features ways to connect with Emily Schuman. After clicking on a post to read, the reader can use the scroll bar on the left to see all of the website’s most recent posts.

One of the best features of Cupcakes and Cashmere are the beautiful photographs with each post. These large, bright images are always so captivating, women who enjoy fashion, food, and design flock to the website. The captions of these photos always feature hyperlinks to the websites where users can buy the products featured, which is one of the many ways the Emily and her husband make profit off of Cupcakes and Cashmere.

With the pretty white space, dainty light pink details, and creative post titles, this webpage easily gets hundreds of thousands of viewers and clicks each month. All of these web aspects sets this fashion website apart from the rest, and has made Emily into a credible fashionista.

In my opinion, there is nothing more perfect than a day full of pampering and relaxing. It is important to occasionally take a day and not plan anything, and just do things you enjoy that can help you relax. As a person who sometimes lets stress overtake life, I was in desperate need of a day to let my mind relax last week.  I took a mid-week break to get a manicure-pedicure, drink iced coffee, and go on a little shopping spree, which certainly did the trick for me.  However, there are tons of other things you can do take a mid-week break and give yourself a boost of happiness. Do yoga in a nearby park, paint watercolors, take yourself out to a nice brunch, buy a new pair of shoes, make a new craft for your room, or bake cookies. It can be as simple as dressing in your favorite outfit and spending the morning at a coffee shop instead of laying in bed that can help you escape your ordinary routine and keep life exciting. Taking joy in the little things you enjoy will give you a new outlook on life, and certainly brighten your day.

What creative outlets do you use when your mind needs a break?

Getaway | Naples, Florida

I just returned from a much-needed getaway to our condo in Naples, Florida. Not only did I escape the Syracuse tundra in exchange for turquoise waters and warm sun, but I also got a chance to refresh my mind after two long, stressful months of school. When I wasn’t lounging on the beach in my favorite Maaji swimsuit, I was wearing this season’s hottest trends… think two-piece sets, comfy rompers, and flowy shorts. With my favorite beach necessities in tow (Jack Rogers sandals, Vogue, a floppy sun hat, and a frothy piña colada) I felt surely relaxed. I can’t wait to go back to college this weekend rejuvenated (and tan), and finish off the semester strong! Here are some of my favorite moments from my vacay.
