Fashionable (Freezing) Friends

Temperatures in Syracuse have been subzero the past few weeks, so I wanted to spotlight a few ways that my friends and I accessorize when the temps drop in to the negatives.

Izzy + Jordyn

In the past month, mirrored aviators have been the hottest accessory. It can get really bright outside when the sun reflects off the snow, so sunglasses are a must. I’m not ashamed to admit that wearing sunglasses in the dead of winter also keeps the gigantic snowflakes from messing up your makeup. My roommates Izzy and Jordyn both wear blue Rayban Flash Lens Sunglasses, available here. The blue color makes them stand out from the blanket of snow behind them, and make them look totally chic on their way to class. Jordyn also wears a chunky oversized knit scarf from Urban Outfitters (similar here) to help block the wind.

Bess

In addition to also sporting some super-trendy sunnies, Bess is wearing a Zara coat with a fur trim hood (similar here) and a Topshop beanie. Topping it off with a Brandy Melville scarf, Bess pulls off a minimalistic look while still staying warm.

Me

I purchased these over-the-knee socks last year and never looked back. A trendy way to add another layer of warmth to my legs, these socks look super trendy peaking out of my Steve Madden boots. I paired them here with an Urban Outfitters sweater and fleece-lined leggings.

Stay warm!!

As a result of Fall 2015 Fashion Week happening now in New York and with spring clothing hitting stores, everyone’s minds (and news feeds) are filled with all the latest styles and trends. The blanket scarf obsession that started this past fall seems to have died down a bit, though at one point, blanket scarves in warm color tones were everywhere.

Even after purchasing this scarf from Asos in October and wearing it religiously throughout fall, it is still my go-to accessory this month. I wrap it around my neck to stay warm when the temperatures in Syracuse drop below zero. Despite the typical remarks I get when I wear it on how big it is, I adore its soft fabric and classic preppy color scheme. The best part about the scarf? I’ve actually used it as a blanket during road trips and on freezing planes.

Paired with my favorite forrest green skinny jeans and a snuggly sweater, this ensemble is easily one of my favorite outfits. The pieces are simple, but together create a polished, sophisticated look that will still keep you warm on a blustery winter day. I usually wear my Frye riding boots to complete the outfit.

What is your most beloved winter accessory?

Extra haute, please.

With Spring 2015 Couture Week happening last week, visions of sequins, sparkle, and tulle dance in the heads of fashionistas everywhere. Haute couture captures the quintessential ideals of romantic glamour that every girly-girl loves to admire. With Valentines Day just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to incorporate chic ruffles and a few extra sparkles.

I purchased this bib necklace last week from BaubleBar and it immediately spices up any outfit I wear it with. The statement necklace has been a trend for awhile, but I am loving that the tribal-glam bib necklace is now in style. I paired this one with an oversized sweater, jeans, and booties. You don’t need to break the bank to try to bib necklace trend. I found many inexpensive ones here and here. A sparkly, fun necklace is an easy way to honor haute couture, without the Elie Saab gown.
